Solar New York
The debate surrounding the future of America’s energy supply has grown increasingly intense during the last several decades. As energy demand has grown, so too have the risks to our energy security, our national security, our environment and our economic stability. Issues as diverse as global warming, air pollution, and military conflict have been associated with our fossil fuel based economy. While the Federal Government has been formulating responses to these issues at the national level, state governments have been formulating regional plans of action. With a disproportionately high dependence on imported energy and a projected growth in energy demand, the northeast states have reached a critical juncture for deciding their energy future.
Solar New York has targeted the entire state of New York and the strategy is scaled accordingly. Solar New York is designed to attract a $500 million investment over four years. This scale will likewise affect the amount of solar energy installed. The Solar New York strategy is expected to result in up to 60 MW for the State through many smaller scale projects. These projects will, in aggregate, create significant market growth and have national implications.
Solar Northeast has been using a field campaign and regional advocacy
strategy. The field campaign has developed through three phases:
As a result of these efforts it has been determined that State facilities may use NYSERDA’s EnVest Program. Moreover, our supporters are a cross-section of environmental, community, business and labor - a powerful group.
See our ENDORSEMENTS page for a list of supporters developed in Phase II and SNE NEWS for examples of current projects.
See http://www.nyserda.org/stateenvest.pdf for description of the EnVest Program.
Recent discussions have led to some interesting incentives for solar energy.
Solar energy is an unlimited and pollution-free resource that reliably produces electricity where it is consumed.
